Apt-get errors
Hiya folks
Sorry about the disappearing act. Apart from turning 27 on Tuesday, I was busy with quite a few things. Brushing up my linux skills with Ubuntu as well as recovering from a knife attack that took place about a couple weeks back, which ended up in my left hand being slashed, tendons being damaged and an operation having to take place in an attempt to repair them. Thankfully I am OK (it could have been worse) but my hand is still in a cast. Hopefully going back to hospital this Saturday will yield better results so that I can start putting my left hand to good use again. Many thanks go to friends who supported me during that time. Much appreciated.
Enough said.
As I mentioned earlier, I was also messing about with Ubuntu. This definitely is a solid system and I for one cannot wait for it to be released on the first of June. I have been using the 64-bit version of the OS and granted while there are very few packages that will not work on it, there are always ways to bypass the problem. At least I have the main important applications such as RealPlayer and MPlayer working on them. Windows Media files (WMV) are another problem all together. I can hear the audio from the files but video just seems to be non-existent. Let's hope someone can come out with a solution soon enough.
While Ubuntu may be a good system, it does have its annoyances. For example, updates tend to crash more often than not and the only way for me to fix this would be logout, restart the computer and once reaching the login screen, press CTRL ALT F1. Once back into the terminal, I have to either type in sudo dpkg --configure -a and if that does not work, type in sudo apt-get -f install. Bit crazy but I suppose if it gets my system back up, there is no reason to complain.
