Global Illumination in Cinema 4D
This is a tutorial that explains how to achive Global Illumation using Cinema 4D XL and keeping rendering time to a minimum. You could also consider this as a tutorial in HDRI.

1. Start off by creating a scene in Cinema 4D. File > New. |

2. Create a plane object by seclecting Objects > Primitive > Plane |

2. Next create a Cube, a Torus and a Sphere |
||||||||||

4. Next create a Sky object by selecting Objects > Scene > Sky |
||||||||||
|
5. Arrange the objects in a way that it should like Image 1. |
||||||||||

6. Next create four materials in the materials manager. Name the materials; Sky, Gold Torus, Red Ball and White Box respectively. Set properties for each material as follows:

7. Open the Render Settings Dialog. Click on the Radiosity Tab and check the Radiosity box to enable this feature. Set the Min. Resolution to 10 and the Max. Resolution to 200 and set the Recompute to Always. Click on the Options Tab and uncheck the Auto Light box.

8. Finally, select the resolution size you want for your render (640 * 480) and click on the OK button of the Render Settings Dialog.

9. Press Shift R to Render. Hopefully the image that render should like Image 2 on the right.

|
It does not look that great but at least this should give you a general idea of how to proceed in creating your own global illumination scenes in Cinema 4D.
